Music & Me
Hello everyone, my name is Nico. I am born in Paris, I have greek origins but I have lived the most part of my life in Brussels, Belgium. I speak four languages which are : French, Greek, English and Dutch. I came to the United States two years ago as a young men, knowing not that much about the American culture, but since then, I have visited so many places, I have met so many people and learned so much about American culture. Some of you may ask yourself why did I came to the US and I did not stayed in Europe, to be fair, it is because the college athlete program was really attracting and I wanted to leave the house of my parents to live my own life.
My hobbies are soccer, which I have been playing for 16 years now. But except that I like to listen to music, hanging out with friends and going to the gym. I also have a dog, he is pretty old and his name is Rocky in reference to the movie Rocky Balboa.
1. My current go-to music of the moment is a French music that came out of a French tv show and that not became really popular. I can hear the music every time I go on my phone, especially on TikTok the music is omnipresent. The song is called "Riri/No camera" and is sing by Tiakola a young rapper. What I really like in this music is that it is divided in two parts and so it looks like they are two different musics in one. Honestly, I can be listening to it any time of the day and I will like it because it is not really a sort of hard rap and it is neither a slow beat, he really found a good balance.
2. A music that is personally meaningful for me and that actually is one of the music that I was listening the most when I was a child is "Replay" by Iyaz. I remember when I was younger, before getting my first phone, my mum gave to me an MP3 player on which I had to download every time any new music that I wanted to add to my playlist. And one of the first songs that I added was this one because even if I did not understood all the lyrics at that time, I really like the beat and the voice of the singer. Every time we were going somewhere with my parents for a trip, I was listening to this music for most part of the road.
3. I do not really connect with the electro music, especially because they are no lyrics. There is one big event in Belgium which is called Tomorrowland and is known worldwide. People go there to see the best DJ's of the world and listen to electro music during three days. One of my friends went this year because he really like that type of music, he sent me some videos and it looked really nice honestly, but knowing myself I would not be able to stay there, stand up a whole day listening to the same type of music.
Nico, I really enjoyed your 2nd article on the song “Replay” by Iyaz. I feel like this was also a staple in a lot of peoples childhood which is crazy because I thought this song was an American thing and I now stand corrected. As for the last piece you included I’d have to agree that I could not find myself listening to music with no lyrics for a three day event, but I will say the visuals in the video with all the lighting and fireworks was pretty interesting to watch as I listened the music.
